Prism Project of Greater New Orleans

The Autism Society of Greater New Orleans is thrilled to announce that we are the new home of the Prism Project of Greater New Orleans. Now a collaborative effort between ASGNO and Love’s Music Therapy, PRISM has been closing a gap in Greater New Orleans by providing performance-arts recreations services, offering inclusive and specialized accommodated program for youth with disabilities and neurotypical youth since 2013.  ASGNO is thrilled to be part of the rich and long history of the PRISM project both as its new home, and as a past partner and funder of the program for many years.

What is Prism Project of Greater New Orleans and How can I get involved?

A music-theater program for children with disabilities and their neurotypical peers, the program functions as one of few extra-curricular performance arts programs available to many of its participants. PRISM fosters an inclusive and highly accommodating environment which has been the starting point for many identity-affirming relationships for performers and their families. Modeled after a program at Ball State University of the same name, PRISM boasts many unique features and partnerships that make it reflective of New Orleans, accommodating to performers, and a meaningful opportunity for college-age volunteers.

FAQ’s:

Why is Prism Project of Greater New Orleans with ASGNO now?  Wasn’t it previously a program of a different organization?

In 2024, the original sponsoring agency of the PRISM project unexpectedly closed down, putting the future of the program in jeopardy.  Thanks to the tireless work and passion of Program Director Jeremy Love of Love’s Music Therapy, PRISM now has a new home with ASGNO.  The staff and board members of ASGNO are thrilled to be able to help keep this program going.

When will the next season of PRISM begin?

We are currently in the process of getting everything set up and transitioned to ASGNO.  Funding for the program must also be secured before we can begin enrolling participants.  Our current goal is to have PRISM return in a limited capacity for pop-up performances in 2026, and for a full season in 2027 pending funding availability.

Will anything be changing about PRISM?

At the moment, no major changes to the program are planned.  PRISM has over a decade of successful implementation and the experiences of its participants speak for themselves. Minor changes such as how sign-ups are conducted, program contact information, and branding will occur.

Who should I contact if I have more questions about the program?

You can reach out to our Executive Director Claire Tibbetts at info@asgno.org, and if she is not able to answer your question, she will connect you with the program director Jeremy Love.
